Victoria, home.

It has been a few weeks now since I landed in Victoria. I have to say I still love the city. I could do with a little less rain but it really does make you appreciate the sun and make the most of the days that you can be outside.

My placement is wonderful and I could not have dreamed up a better place to land. The team is kind, welcoming and fun to work with. I learn more and more every day about Victoria, the team and the fantastic work The Chamber does for the business community (more on that in a post coming up). I have the opportunity to learn the city and meet the people who make this city a better place through a video project I am working on. Their stories and passion for what they do inspire me. They make me hopeful that Victoria can be my new home.

Being an intern is not always fun, you get stuck with odd tasks like setting up computer stations and crawling around on the floor to pull wires out of walls. That being said, everyone had to start somewhere and given all the value The Chamber provides in the community I really can’t complain. We even have a hummingbird that visits the office a few times a day. But there is something to be said about seeing the page you created from scratch successfully upon a website that people actually visit a lot.

I have to admit, weekends are my favourite part of living in Victoria, there are so many stunning places to explore. Every weekend we try to get out and hike somewhere else. Last weekend I drove up to Sidney with some friends to a bakery there that can literally put every other bakery in the country out of business. The Sidney Bakery is to die for. Their doughnuts are huge and so inexpensive. So yes I fell in mad love with the place. Sidney also has 5+ bookstores on the main street so really the place is my heaven. We also tackled Mount Findlay last weekend which was interesting, to say the least. I am terrified of heights so making it to the top was a hyperventilating struggle, to say the least, but the forest was stunning.

I will say I am not thrilled with the sheer amount of rain that is currently happening. I feel like my umbrella has permanently attached itself to my hand. I have been told that this will pass but it has yet to do the passing and it has been three weeks now. So it can pass like yesterday.

All in all, Victoria is an amazing place and I could not be happier with my decisions. Now let’s all cross everything and hope it sticks.

P.S. stay tuned for a post on my Easter Weekend adventures!
